Oakwood’s vision is inspired by Isaiah 61:1-3
The vision is a view not of what Oakwood is today, but of
what we believe that God desires that we become.
This is what we believe God’s agenda is for our church:
a Spirit filled safe place where real people reach out, heal and grow
together in Christ.
Spirit Filled
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me...the Lord has anointed me.”
This means that the Holy Spirit guides and directs, gives us
gifts, and fills each of us and our community as a whole.
It is God who is in-charge of our church. Back to TopSafe Place
“...comfort all who morn, provide for those who grieve, to bestow on them a
crown of beauty...”
This means
that we are to be 1) a shelter from the storms of life, and 2) a
place where a new life can be built upon a firm foundation. Back to TopReal People
“...the brokenhearted, and the captives…” This means
that we are first to receive people exactly where they are in life
without a list of entrance expectations.
Second, we are to reflect and express who we are, what we
feel and think, and what we are going through in life. Back to TopReach Out
“...proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor...” This means
that we are to speak of Jesus, and invite people who don’t know him
to experience a relationship with him.
This may also include an invitation to visit Oakwood Church
for those who live in the area and do not presently attend a church. Back to TopHeal
“...bind up the brokenhearted... and release from darkness the prisoners...”
This
means that we are to be a place where wounded people are not
neglected or marginalized, but are offered Christ’s love through our
love and Christ’s healing through his power and mercy. Back to TopGrow Together in Christ
“...a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor.”
This means that we are all on a journey of growth, moving from
spiritual seedlings into strong and righteous oaks. Back to Top |
